Retracing The Steps: From Point A To Point B (A Graphic Designer To Be)

A set of eight compositions traces specific points or periods from my past that have made me want to become a graphic designer. Each of the compositions bears a title (an abstract noun) which relates to a particular event or period of the past. After finding synonyms for each of the abstract nouns (fascination, immersion, soul-searching, praise, motivation, ache, impregnation, courage) I have set out to create compositions for each of them by using the specific word's and its synonyms'origin. Some compositions are based on a single word's origin, while others are a combination of several. Faced with the challenge of visually expressing the abstract, I resorted to
presenting bodily symptoms usually associated with being fascinated or motivated, feeling courageous, etc. I also make use of well-known symbols (such as the heart symbol).

>> Inaugural Words <<

Halt! Inspired by an unfavourable chain of events last year, I decided I needed to swerve.
I embarked on the quest for the creative. I needed to harness my frustration, to use it creatively. After so many years I was provided with the opportunity to pursue graphic design. The time has come. Finally! I was completely immersed. Graphic design fascinates me, it leaves me with my mouth gaping. It brings me so much joy and it provides me with such an intense creative outlet.
I hope this blog bears testimony to my naive stabs at creativity. Let us begin!
